Making A Difference in Our County
University of Georgia Cooperative Extension is working hard for its constituents. The following are examples of Extension’s impact in the county over the past year.

Hurricane Idalia made landfall in August 2023. The UGA Extension Emergency Preparedness Team has drones for crop damage assessments as part of a USDA/NIFA grant. Before the hurricane arrived, Lanier County ANR agent reminded team members that drones were available for damage assessments. After the storm hit, ANR Agents identified areas with the worst damage. 41 Drone flights were conducted with ANR Agents at 18 sites. Photos helped estimate yield loss to secure aid for disaster programs. The photos were documentation of damage for insurance claims, etc. Timely actions after Hurricane Idalia ensured that 18 operations had resources and documentation necessary to move forward after a natural disaster.
