What is 4-H?

What is 4-H?

4-H is an educational youth program focusing on the needs, interests and concerns of young people. Our aim is to help Oconee youth gain a positive self-concept, develop social skills and decision-making abilities, and learn subject knowledge needed for a productive life. 4-H members develop leadership and citizenship skills through individual project work, group activities, community service and school meetings. We are the youth division of the UGA Extension program. 4-H began as corn and tomato clubs, but has evolved to become the largest youth organization in the world.

Who is Eligible?

Grade level determines participation in Georgia 4-H Programs, both in competitive and non-competitive events.  Oconee 4-H programs are for 5th graders through 12th graders.  However, we do have some programs to include younger children.

When are 4-H Meetings?

Students in 5th-8th grades have in-school 4-H meetings during the school year. High school students meet after school.

How Much Does it Cost?

There is no charge to join 4-H. Some optional activities may have a cost associated with the event.
