S.A.F.E. Programs

Project S.A.F.E. (Shooting Awareness, Fun and Education) is an active program, attractive to youth and adult audiences. The program is curriculum based and designed to assist young people in personal development, establish a personal environmental ethic and explore life-long vocational and avocational activities. The program uses experiential learning and positive interactions with youth and adult role models to help young people develop self-concept, self-assurance and a positive self-image.

4-H'ers interested in signing up for one of Elbert County 4-H's S.A.F.E. teams must fill out a Shooter Information Packet, and a parent/guardian must sign the Adult Code of Conduct

Elbert County 4-H currently has three S.A.F.E. disciplines:

Elbert County 4-H Archery Team

Purpose: To teach archery safety and the employment of shooting for sport and competition.

Elbert County 4-H BB Team

The perfect entry-level sport for all future shooting activities.

The National Rifle Association is the governing body for rule development and competitive shooting practices. In BB gun shooting, shooters use four different Olympic-style shooting positions (standing, prone, sitting, kneeling) and fire ten shots for score from each position. The target is placed 5 meters (some 16 feet) away. A possible perfect score in each position is 100, for a total possible score of 400 points. To date, the World Record is 398. Although the black aiming circle of each target is about 3 inches in diameter, the bull’s-eye is only the diameter of a BB.
