What is a Family and Consumer Sciences Agent?

A Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Agent is a person who can assist workers, consumers, and families in meeting their basic and most important needs with a wide body of research-based knowledge about topics that affect your life: your family, your food, and your house. FACS Agents have a long tradition of helping individuals and families over their life span and strengthening communities through educational programs.

UGA Family and Consumer Sciences

Extension programs place non-biased, research-based information at your fingertips. County agents and specialists throughout the state provide cutting-edge knowledge on many topics, including housing, nutrition, quality child care, parenting, and food safety.

The information offered by FACS agents, as well as others in Cooperative Extension, is provided by researchers at The University of Georgia College of Family and Consumer Sciences, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, and other universities across our nation. Business, consumer, and community representatives in each county identify critical issues that Extension should address, and guide the planning and delivery of these programs, some of which we can deliver in Spanish.
